PS3 - 4.45 Update

Sony’s latest PlayStation 3 update, number 4.45, seems to be causing some major problems, according to reports on the PS3 community forums.

According to the original poster, the issues occurred after the update had been downloaded, installed and the system rebooted. At this point (unedited):

After it display the PS3 logo, it went to the second screen (the flowing ribbon). It suppose to display XB next. but it never goes there. Just the flowing ribbon. I can not even shutdown the system by press the power button. (It bleeps, but the system didn’t shut down.) So I tried unplug the power cord, and plugin again. Still same problem.

At the time of writing, there were over 570 replies with many other users reporting the same problem. One follow-up poster who had contacted Sony support said that they had been advised to “wait until their engineers have returned to work tomorrow and can address the issue”.

At the moment, it looks as if users should hold off on downloading the update until we have further information from Sony.

Update: Sony community forum member RKumono has the following advice for anyone who has already installed the update and is experiencing the locking issue.

When the fix is posted by Sony, you’ll be able to install it from a USB drive when your PS3 is in Safe Mode. To enter Safe Mode:

Red Light (Standby)

Press and hold Power button on console

When you hear a beep, keep holding

When you hear a second beep, wait a moment and release power

Should be in Standby/Red Light Mode again

Press and hold Power button on console (a second time)

When you hear a beep, keep holding

When you hear two fast beeps, release power button quickly

From there, put the downloaded fixed firmware on a USB drive in a folder called “/PS3/UPDATE”. Select option 6 (Update Firmware) from the Safe Mode menu.

Again, wait until Sony has confirmed that the firmware has been fixed. User J-Bone127 said he has confirmed this procedure with Sony support.

Updated at 4.34pm AEST: added information about putting the console in Safe Mode.

Evo i s engaget-a :

Planned to turn on your PS3 for some The Last of Us action tonight? According to a thread on the PlayStation Support forums, if you’re prompted to install the latest firmware update version 4.45 then you may want to hold off for the moment. A number of owners are reporting their systems will no longer fully boot up after the update, although the problem may only affect users with hard drives installed that are 500GBs or larger. According to the changelog, it was supposed to allow users to select whether or not they want an in-game notification when a trophy is earned. If it is tied to user-replaced hard drives, then it wouldn’t be the first time – v3.41 resulted in a few corrupted PlayStation 3 drives a few years ago. Check the thread for more details, if we hear anything from Sony then we’ll let you know when it’s safe to press OK.

Update: It appears the update has been pulled and users are no longer being prompted to download it, but we still haven’t received any official response from Sony on the situation.

Update 2: According to the PlayStation Europe Twitter account, Sony is aware of the problem, and has taken 4.45 offline to investigate the issue.

Oficijalni firmware brikuje konzolu, stvarno nisu normalni. :fubar:

Crazy!

Povucen je s PSN-a novi update.

The update was supposed to include Trophy notification options and “improved system stability,” but so far it’s had the opposite effect. This is a particularly bad time for something like this to occur, as many players are currently right in the middle of The Last of Us, a game no one wants to be locked out of partway through.
This should be temporary however, and it’s very unlikely the system is actually “dead.” Sony released this statement about their next steps regarding the firmware update.
“We are aware of reports that the recent PlayStation 3 system software update (version 4.45) has caused the XMB to not display on a small number of PS3 systems. We have temporarily taken 4.45 offline and are investigating the cause of the problem. We will announce when the system update is available for download as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience.”
So now when you log on, you shouldn’t be prompted to update, but if you are, just don’t do it. A rough estimate of the affected systems based on forum postings is below:

Aftermaket HDDs, 500GB-1TB ~90%
Stock 500GB models ~8%
Stock 120GB models ~2%
Stock 1st-gen fat models ~ 0%
A temporary fix for the aftermarket folks is said to be finding and replacing your current HDD with your old one. Obviously your saves won’t be there, but it should solve the issue temporarily if you must play something until there’s a grand fix. I would advise against any other type of internal fiddling or hacking until we know more information or get an official solution. Hopefully that will be soon, and we won’t have another repeat of a long-winded Sony fix like when PSN was hacked and offline for weeks.

Warning: PS3 firmware 4.45 crashing consoles
Update: Sony has pulled the firmware update for now.

Sony has pushed out a new PS3 firmware update. System software 4.45 was supposed to add trophy notification options and improve overall system stability.

Unfortunately, it did quite the opposite.

The PlayStation community forums have blown up with reports of the firmware causing several issues, including causing consoles to become completely unresponsive.

Sony has yet to respond to these issues that have cropped up. In the meantime, PS3 owners are advised not to update to 4.45 at this time (although it may already be too late for some members.

Improvizacija
