Kinect itself is great, but i didn’t see a great game for it yet, whats the best game you have?
The best games I have played so far are:
Kinect Adventures (every mini-game in there is great)
Motion Sports (Skiing, Football and Boxing are great, Horseriding I didn’t try, Handgliding and American Football (hahahahaha) are not so good).
The worst game I played so far is Kinect Joyride.
So is it worth 18 000?
Lol the cat was like, why is this guy prancing around like a fairy…?
That car game does look a bit silly, as if others are not. But somehow, steering imaginable wheel is that line of selfrespect I just wouldn’t cross. It looked idiotic on promo videos and I doubt I would even give it a try.
One thing I don’t like, also, is that the scope of your motions are way bigger than the screen, that’s something I noticed from the very beginning. Maybe if it would be better if you’d do 1:1 moves in front of the projector screen or really huge TV. It’s just a lot of effort to do a simple moves, and I prefer my gaming to be as effortless as possible, that is why I prefer consoles over the PC. I don’t know if the motion sensor is sensitive enough for finer moves, that in the combination of some serious gaming would maybe convince me to buy it.
This thread is very useful. I think anyone who isn’t sure whether to buy a Kinect is sure to make up his/her mind after reading this thread. Generally I,myself would buy one,if I knew there isn’t one already waiting for me
It’s a good thing Kinect, for short fun for sure, only I’m not quite sure that it is long-term worth for. I mean, yes you are going to jump all day playing Kinect adventures, but the next day with little less enthusiasm (this was in my case) and so on,and so forth…
While I was writing this it came to me,that if there were blockbuster games for Kinect that would satisfy The need
I may give it a try if I have a chance, but to buy it? Nope, it’s just too silly and expensive (it costs nearly as much as the console it self).
For Kinect to be anything but a short term gimmick, high quality blockbuster games are going to be needed and game developers are going to need to figure out innovative and imaginative new ways of both using Kinect to control the game and, I also believe that to a certain extent, the user interface (UI) is going to need to be completely re-thought for most games. I was just thinking last night that a strategy game like “Command and Conquer” could be really awesome, if they can figure out a friendly way to control it with Kinect.
The same for First Person Shooters, holding your hand in front of you as a gun, throwing when you want to launch a grenade, reaching out to touch things, doors, objects when you want to interact with them, so on and so forth.
The games for Kinect so far, are fun, but not very serious. Next year is going to be the year for some serious games. Oh, and I have to throw this one out there - Grand Theft Auto: Kinect!
I can agree with you on all your points except this one.
There’s just no way that FPS games can work properly on kinect unless you hold an actual controller and use kinect as a supplement.
FPS games need to be much, much more precise than what you get using kinect.
Even if we’re talking about an on rails shooter, it would still be frustrating.
I think that the amount of frustration on an FPS would depend on just how innovative a developer can be and just how far outside of the box they can think. I agree that, based on our existing concepts of what a FPS and how it should be controlled, switching to Kinect would be awkward and not controlled very well.
However, Kinect is capable of multiple levels of sensitivity, 1:1 movement, 2:1 movement, and much higher as you might have seen in some of my videos. A system that is close to 1:1 on something like call of duty, coupled with an on screen visual aide (laser sight) and a clever targeting system…I think it could work.
I have played a FPS on the Wii before, it was ok, but Kinect is a complete revolution and change in control, different from anything before…I am curious too see if EA, Activision, Blizzard, etc, can figure out fun and exciting ways for all types of games to work.
There was some success with voice control implementation in RTS, by non other than small serbian developer, but for the Starcraft-like fast realtime clickfest Kinect would obviously be a serious hindrance. In terms of out of the box thinking regarding the new interface, I am looking at japanese developers that showed some interest in Kinect. It should also be noted that Kinect has been recently reverse engeneered thus enabling it’s use on other platforms by indie developers and community. But so far it’s not looking very bright. Milions of early adopters have already generated serious revenue, and there are indications in Microsoft PR campaign that they just don’t want Kinect to be “hardcore”, and I’m not sure how much third party developers can do if they are not supported by Microsoft.
I think that developers saw what was successful on Wii and will try do upgrade the system used there-by this I mean shooting system, cover and that kinda stuff…
It should be interesting to see Dice’s and Frostbite’s creation As I am a big fan of Battlefield series, I believe that their game could be the one that really turns the tables
Every time I read any post in this thread I am more eager to play Kinect
I will probably buy Kinect, but when more games come out and the price drops(18 000 is very expensive). It’s looking very fun, maybe i would convince my sister to try this, she played two games in her life,Sims and GTA:VC
Hahah I’m familiar with your ‘‘problem’’
You know what kinect is also good for? You know when you have guests with children and they are full of energy and they insist that you play with them even if you got smarter things to do Well,Kinect will burn their energy quickly leaving you with older (more important) guests
Hehehe Prle - that is a good one! Kinect has many many uses! I just finished working for the day and have eaten dinner, so I am going to let my food settle for 30 mins and then make some more videos from Kinect!
Prle,i’ll try that as soon as i get kinect (nzm sto mi pricamo na engleskom al’ ajd’
)
Zach,did you get Dance Central?
Zach, have you got Kinect Sports?
Dance Central is still downloading from Bitorrent, I have 60mbit internet from SBB but it has little seeds so its slow.
I do have Kinect Sports but I didn’t try it yet. My work has gotten very busy in the last 36 hours but I will try to make a video of Kinect Sports later today or tomorrow!
Well, sure they wanna see me, i am smokin’ … (ok, this is offtopic, but i am person who was shooting all those videos. Camera-woman!)
I am going’ to lunch now so i cant post review of Kinect…yes i sure was thinking its insanely stupid to spend 18.000din. just so he (Zach) can be some fancy big-thing, 1st one having Kinect in Belgrade, maybe Serbia.
And yeah, i was agreeing with people that said that Kinect ‘will be fun for 4 year olds’. Most people who get it will get it only for that (people think if they get Xbox/PS/Wii… for kid they dont have to spend any time with them ofcourse).
But i personally have almost no balance, meaning i cant stand on my own (ok, i can if there are not vast free space infront) but that havent stopped me to play if i want. Zach holds me from behind and i can play it (i just cant jump)…
Thats why i HATE hearing some people saying that they just want to stay sitting and not move their ass from sofa. If i can, i am sure they can. It pisses me to no end.
Lunch time!
Cool. I asume that is Zach and you in the photo?
Personally, i like more challenging games than what Kinect has to offer now. If it gets better in the future, then, i’ll get it for sure (Peca has an evil grin in his face), but now, excuse me, those things are boring! Me… Want… Challenge!
Zach, you are very lucky…Kinect looks great!
