CD Projekt Red seems torn on whether or not to make another Witcher game.
On one hand, the series was conceived as a trilogy, and it’s had a stellar “final” entry in the form of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The team doesn’t want to overdo things. On the other hand… well, it’s profitable, and people want more.
“The Witcher was designed as a trilogy and a trilogy cannot have a fourth part, can it?” an executive said during a recent Q&A session (via GameSpot). “[But] we like this world a lot. We invested 15 years of our lives in it and a lot of money. So, we’ll think about [making The Witcher 4].”
One possibility for the series is that it could continue to expand in other ways that aren’t mainline games, as is the case with Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. Geralt’s already had his “final quest” in The Witcher 3‘s second expansion, Blood and Wine, so a new game could theoretically pick up following different characters.
Either way, the series will likely be on hold for a while as CD Projekt Red focuses on its current project, Cyberpunk 2077.
