Trion explains Defiance DLC

Trion Worlds has already promised five downloadable content packs for Defiance, bundled as a Season Pass for $40. But since the game is an MMO at heart, it has to make some allowances for every player. A new blog entry explains where the free ends and the paid content begins, and offers some frank admissions about its server stability.

The blog from executive producer Nathan Richardsson once again notes “at least” five DLC packs, each with its own free and paid component. The features will be made free so as to not segregate the player base, while the paid component is (for example) access to a new playable species and their associated equipment. Packs that tie in to the TV show will be free as well.

Meanwhile, the team is rolling out additional bug fixes, to address issues ranging from simple bug fixes to server crashes. It also claims that two massive patches are coming, one around April 15th and the other two weeks later. The DLC will follow.

In closing, Richardsson offers an apology to the affected players. “We’re not giving up till we make this an awesome experience for you and as I mentioned yesterday, figuring out a way to make it up to you,” he said. “Again, our apologies. After 5 years of creating this, it saddens us and frustrates us that you aren’t getting the great experience we strived to create. The upside is that it makes us quite determined to get you there.”
