Blizzard has revealed that Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition is being developed for Xbox One alongside the previously announced PlayStation 4 version, but the developer can’t confirm if it will ever be released.
“I don’t know where we are with Microsoft right now so I can’t really comment on what that contract looks like,” Diablo III lead producer Alex Mayberry told Videogamer. “The point is we are developing for Xbox [One] and PS4 simultaneously. We hit those major platforms and then our goal as a development team is to make them run.
Mayberry explained that it made more sense to develop the game for both consoles despite an Xbox One release not being confirmed. ”We have that pipeline worked out,” he added. “We’ve already done it with the 360 and PS3, so that team knows how to develop at the same time for both of those platforms. That’s just what we do. And then Blizzard and Microsoft can work out whatever they work out.”
The Ultimate Evil Edition will include the original Diablo III game and its first expansion Reaper of Souls, which will be available on PC from tomorrow, March 25. When asked about a potential console release date, Mayberry said, ”It’s not far off… [The console team] work in parallel development with us so they’re not far behind.”
So far Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition has only been officially announced for PlayStation 4.
