Players who pre-order the digital version of Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition will get a special surprise: early access to their free copy of Halo Wars: Definitive Edition.
343 Industries revealed the pre-order bonus on stage during the Video Game Awards 2016 ceremony. Fans already knew that the free copy of Halo Wars would come bundled with Halo Wars 2, which releases next February. Now, though, those who pre-order will be able to start playing as early as December 20th.
Here’s how it works. If you made your pre-order through the Xbox Store, Microsoft will send a code to your Xbox message center sometime on or after December 20th. (The company warns that it may take seven to 10 days for all codes to roll out.) If you made your pre-order from a participating retailer, then you should have received a download code for Halo Wars 2. Redeem that code on your Xbox account, and Microsoft will send you another code for Halo Wars. (Again, it might take seven to 10 days.)
