Capcom’s free-to-play dungeon crawler Deep Down is getting delayed in Japan until after summer 2014, producer Kazunori Sugiura informed Dengeki Online.
“About Deep Down, I think we’ll give full fledged information to everyone after the summer, so you may have to wait for a little while beyond the launch [of PS4 in Japan] on February 22nd,” Sagiura told Dengeki Online, as translated by DualShockers. “Since we don’t want to risk to be told, ‘This could have been done on PS3!’ we want to finish a game that fully uses the PS4 hardware specs.”
While Deep Down was first unveiled during Sony’s PlayStation Meeting 2013 last February in New York City, a Western release has never been formally announced. It’s safe to assume that’s an inevitability, but how much the Japanese delay will influence its localization is uncertain. In all likelihood, the dungeon crawler will probably not reach North America or Europe until 2015.
For those of you unfamiliar with Deep Down, Capcom’s PS4 exclusive revolves around characters in the future—New York circa 2094, to be exact—who possess the ability to gather memories from people or the residual traces of memories left behind on artifacts and ruins to teleport to the past and explore medieval-style dungeons populated by monsters and filled with treasure.
