Bungie: Making Destiny for PC Would Spread Us too Thin

Attempting to develop Destiny for PC as well as consoles would spread Bungie too thin, according to Destiny senior writer and Bungie community manager Eric Osborne.

“It’s a huge challenge to ship four platforms and a massive opportunity to reach a new audience,” Osborne told IGN. ”We know there are a lot of people out there asking for PC and we know that there are a lot of gamers that would willingly give us money, but what we have to do is make sure we’re focused enough to bring a good experience to any platform that we ship on.

“What we 100 percent are not going to do is spread ourselves so thin that it negatively harms the other platforms. So right now we have the four platforms, which is a lot to focus on.”

A beta for Destiny is set to begin early 2014 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.

Why Destiny isn’t destined for PC

Destiny is a cross-gen console game, but it isn’t coming to PC like some of the others that are bridging the gap. Bungie says that’s for good reason, since the studio isn’t large enough to support too many versions and adding PC to the docket would push them past their limit.

“It’s a huge challenge to ship four platforms and a massive opportunity to reach a new audience,” community manager Eric Osborne told IGN. “We know there are a lot of people out there asking for PC and we know that there are a lot of gamers that would willingly give us money, but what we have to do is make sure we’re focused enough to bring a good experience to any platform that we ship on. What we 100 percent are not going to do is spread ourselves so thin that it negatively harms the other platforms. So right now we have the four platforms, which is a lot to focus on.”

Osborne reportedly acknowledged the possibility of a PC version, but was firm about it not being in development alongside the console ones. That means if a PC version ever does come, it will be quite a wait.
